Movie: Man Of The Year

Posted by Drew on November 19th, 2006

Merissa and I just got back from the movie Man Of The Year with Robin Williams. I remember being intrigued by the premise of the movie when I saw the promotions, but worried that it would not carry itself very well. Well I loved it. I found it exceptionally funny, but funny in a thought provoking manner. At its heart, the movie challenged the status quo of the political landscape, something I think it did admirably. Merissa was not such a fan, as one scene in particular bothered her. The scene in question was a character who had been drugged, and who was having a mental breakdown at work. I think the power of the scene came from the talents of the actress. For being a comedy, there were certainly some dark moments, and more dramatic tension then I would have expected. I found it all worked quite well together, and would recommend it highly.

The plot in Man of the Year was tough to wrap my head around. I thought it was almost entirely fiction (too much in a way). I’m glad Drew liked it. :)
